Native Grounds is part of the twelfth set of worlds in Kingdom Hearts SOS. It is one of the three water worlds, the second part of the Open Waters arc. It is based off of the 2016 film "Moana ."
Story[]
I. Maui The Demigod[]
Upon waking up from their shipwrecks, the keyblade masters of Kaida and AJ woke up on an island. Wondering what where they were at first, as well panicking about the others, the duo discussed what had happened moments before their wreck. As they did, they were met with a very large man decorated in tattoos and certainly, who announced himself as Maui the demigod. Recognizing the group to be members of the SOS, he briefly wondered if they could get him off of the island only to be disappointed when they couldn't. While the group learned more about Maui's situation of being trapped on the island, as well as listening to his self boasting, Stratos eventually washed up on the shores as well.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, Kel washed ashore, wondering where everyone else was. As he looked around, he only found a small canoe, a white wolf and a girl with wavy black hair. Going up to her, Kel learned that she was Moana, and was here to find a man by the name of Maui. As the two talked, the wolf seemed to pick up on something, and began to lead Kel and Moana to the other side of the island. Once there, they had reunited with the other keyblade masters. Now finding Maui, Moana told the group about her task to return Te Fiti's, the goddess of life's, heart to help save her world. She also informed the group that Maui was the one who originally stole it, and though Maui did so to bring a gift to the mortals, in doing so he only cursed the world and had been remembered for doing so. Maui, however, not interested in this mission, decided to take off and steal Moana's canoe.
Getting on their keygliders, the group chased after Maui, Moana boarding the canoe in the process. Being revealed that she was chosen by the sea to do this task. Maui, still not willing to help, decided he would if the group could get his hook back from the lair of Tamatoa. Agreeing to help, the group made their way to the lair of Tamatoa, who turned out to be a giant monster hermit crab. Knowing that they had to distract the crab so that Maui could get his hook, the group took to fighting, using their keyblades and magic to fend off Tamatoa. After a hard fought battle, the crab not actually being bothered by all of the attacks they were using, once the group what they came for they made a hasty retreat.
II. Who You Are[]
Now reunited with his hook, Maui has come to the conclusion that he's a hack. Unable to use its shape shifting powers like before, the man gets depressed only for the keyblade masters and Moana to try and encourage to get his groove back. After giving him some suggestions as to what to do, the man eventually figured out how to use his hook once more, unlocking its powers. As he did, the hook shot out a beam of light towards the white wolf, changing the wolf's appearance into that of a hooded man. Revealing himself to be a keyblade master as well, by the name of Marx, the man described his situation that lead to him being cursed and turned into the wolf that was with them.
Once that was taken care of, Maui then came to a realization that Moana was actually a princess of heart. Revealing this to the rest of the group, they were more resolved to keep her safe, as well as help finish their task to bring down Te Ka, the giant lava monster keeping them from returning Te Fiti's heart. Once they had sailed to meet Te Ka, the group engaged in battle, AJ obtaining the second level of his Wind Aura. After a hard fought battle, the group managed to defeat Te Ka and reveal the body of Te Fiti within it. Returning her heart and sealing the keyhole of the world, the group managed to solve the curse affecting the world.
With their task done and their goodbyes said, the group began to discuss what they should do next. Thinking of how to leave the island, the group was at a loss, and simply decided to keep drifting on their raft. Instead, they shifted to topics more on the matters of the princess of heart and how there were seven guardians of light that were supposed to guard them. Though the group wondered who the seven could be, they ended up with nothing as they simply talked about their homeworlds instead. As they discussed this, though, the group was met with a dark shadow overhead and rocking waters, as their raft was swallowed whole by a giant whale.
